RSPCA Million Paws Walk

last weekend we ditched our sunday morning sleep in to join thousands of others (2 legged & 4 legged alike!) at the RSPCA Million Paws Walk. it’s an annual event held Australia wide & we’ve been meaning to sign up for the past few years, so this year we finally looked up our local event, registered & wandered on over to Albert Park Lake with our little fur-baby.
DSC09917
kerouac can sometimes be a little on the grumpy side (when it comes to small fluffy dogs that is. she loves humans! pretty sure she thinks she is human!) so we had high hopes that she would behave herself for this very doggy outing – & she definitely didn’t disappoint!
#PicFrame
DSC09920
i’m actually not sure how she managed to be so calm considering the monstrous crowd – i guess she was just overwhelmed with all the sights, smells & pups! the race began while we were still making our way to the starting line!
DSC09923
and they’re off
#PicFrame
look at that huge grin!
DSC09929
the long trail of pups & people stretched half way around the lake – such a sight to see!

and here’s a pic of me looking ridiculously tired (can i add that this was pre-caffiene & well into our second hour of walking? haha)
DSC09933
the RSPCA did such a brilliant job – the Million Paws Walk was a total success raising over half a million dollars in Victoria alone! all three of us had a blast & although we humans were pooped, pups seemed to be on some sort of a high! so much for tuckering her out! haha
Make sure you check out their website & sign up yourself – it really is such a great cause!

the last of the summer sunshine

a few weekends ago, before Melbourne became the obligatory winter wonderland, Penny & i headed out in the last of the summer sunshine on a little vintage shopping adventure. while we didn’t document any of that (what is wrong with us?!) we did make a stop at The St Kilda Dispensary – where i went a bit snap happy (to say the least!)

i’m in love with the decor here – clean lines, hints of vintage & a whole pile of medical equipment. it fits in perfectly with the fact that back in the day, the building itself was actually the St Kilda Medical Dispensary!!
the owner Kristy is just lovely & found all the pieces herself – i’m just a teeeeensy bit jealous of her incredible finds! πŸ˜‰
DSC09825
Penny got straight to instagraming
DSC09834
while my attempt at a selfie failed (still getting the hang of the manual setting on my camera!)
DSC09830
thankfully there’s always coffee to save the day
DSC09829
i love the cute little sugar jars – our souvenir spoon was London Bridge!
(did i ever mention that i have a souvenir spoon collection?? because i do…)
DSC09827
this here is my favourite cozy corner
look at those light globes! and the crutches in the corner! and the little bursts of colour from the flowers scattered all around! ahhh so so perfect!
DSC09831
DSC09836
it has come to my attention that this is what i look like whenever this meal is placed in front of me. i literally just sit there grinning at it.
can you blame me though?
DSC09832
look at it! The ever so delicious veggie breakfast roll – with avo & feta mash, a fried egg, rocket & hollandaise sauce…oh man! i’m getting hungry just thinking about it!
DSC09841
DSC09833
Penny had a delicious scone & jam slider! how cute is it?!!
all the meals here are affordable & from the few i’ve tried, they’re also delicious (though i do keep having the veggie breakfast roll! it’s just too good!)
DSC09843
this is actually the hardest window to get a shot of – this was the best out of them all. the brightness meant the reflections were off the hook! sorry! haha

not wanting the deliciousness to end there, we decided to grab ourselves a couple of cupcakes from Southside Markets
DSC09846
unfortunately they didn’t taste as good as they looked…
actually, they were awful & after one tiny bite we both threw them out! such a waste & so so sad

we decided that the only way to get rid of the bad cupcake taste & cure our blues was to have even more food
DSC09855
naturally we went for chips with aioli dip
DSC09854
we also got some sparkling rose – the perfect companion to chips!
(haha probably not but it is delicious)
DSC09862
pretty roses that i wanted to take home with me

we had such a fun, food-filled day & i can’t believe those sunny days are already so far behind us! oh well – we’ll just have to wear more layers next time! πŸ˜‰

Queensland me time

My trip to Queensland was both completely wonderful & also totally necessary.
2013 has proven to be wonderful, extremely hectic & absolutely epic in both dizzying highs & hard to digest lows.
Sometimes processing all of the above takes time & that is exactly what I was lacking.
Quality me-time.

I went to Queensland with my only plan being to have no plans. No return flight. No scheduled meetings. No alarms. Nothing but time to relax & laze around enjoying the simple things.

I spent a lot of time with both my parents, which was wonderful. Last year I only made it up twice, so I’m planning on not making that same mistake this year!
It also meant I was able to catch up with my friend Krysta (who is also my hairdresser!), so I’m not sure if my hair has ever been this maintained in all my adult life! Hahaha
#PicFrame
she did such a great job!
It’s also the shortest I’ve had my hair in years – if only it would look like this all the time! πŸ˜‰

I caught up with childhood friends, meet an adorable little bub, looked at vintage stores, ate a lot of Thai food, drank a lot of coffee (even more than usual!), watched the x-files (Toooooooooms!!) & Judge Judy (mums guilty pleasure! Haha), drank beer on a mountain & read an awesome trilogy by Jilliann Hoffmann! Oh – & I also got to spend Mother’s Day with my Mama which was so so wonderful

Here’s a few of my Instagram snaps from the past 10 days (or so!)

Wrap-ups & unscheduled breaks

While i am doing a bit of a wrap-up here, i may as well add that I’m currently taking a little break.

Seems my ability to manage my stress levels is rather lacking (note – currently non-existent!), so I’ve headed up north to visit my folks & unwind a bit.
I guess we can sometimes get to a point where we worry about the needs of others instead of our own.
That is where I find myself right now

I would love to say that I’m chasing the sun, but my arrival in Queensland seems to have coincided with the rain & a much cooler than usual Queensland climate! Trust! πŸ˜‰

For now life is consisting of a very slow & much welcomed pace.

A lot of sleep, long lazy days & reading.
Plus spending time with my family is always such a bonus – I really don’t see enough of them!

Here’s to spending time with the ones you love (must add – am missing Mike & puppy like crazy!) & looking after yourself

#PicFrame
this photo is one of my favourites from the day
the last one of us before we were married
(& a selfie in a mirror at that!)

i remember the feeling of anticipation
everything felt so surreal
we’d gone out to grab coffee & some breakfast, before wandering down to the farmers market at the ferry terminal
i bought 2 bunches of ranunculus that i planned on making into a bouquet – a roll of double sided tape & 2 meters of ribbon later, & i was done
we were both ready in under half an hour…

i remember a few days earlier a friend said to us

i don’t know how to describe it, but it changes everything

we thought he was mad…
…but now i’m not so sure
i mean, he was kind of right.
there has been a subtle change – a shift of sorts.

it’s a wonderful feeling

Blurry San Jose

the rest of San Jose was quite blur
the premiere went off & the crowd absolutely loved it (even though they did start the screening while we were still on the red carpet! hah! talk about crazy)
there was a lot of drinking, not very much sleeping & a lot of film screenings – two of Sparks & a few of the midnight screenings we managed to catch (one was all about zombies! oh yeah!)
we did manage to take quite a lot of video footage, but that needs to be edited…a lot! haha
here’s the rest of our San Jose trip…

Sparks Red Carpet

the red carpet was hilarious.
and by hilarious i actually mean kind of terrifying! (in a good way of course)

there were people everywhere, along with crazy bright lights & more cameras then you could poke a stick at! it was really wild!
i’ve been on the press line before, taking pictures of people on the red carpet when i helped Mike out with Indie Film Nation, and even that was crazy – not to mention i was a little star struck (Joseph Gordon Levitt!!!!!), but this was a whole new strange level for me!
i did feel like my face was going to burst from smiling so much – but i figure that can’t be a bad thing!

some friends managed to snap some photos of us as we were shuffled down the press line so i thought i’d share a few

it was really such a fun experience.
plus i managed to find a 1940s dress to fit in with the era of the film, so i ticked that one off my list!

i wore: vintage 1940’s dress from Shag / sportsgirl heels / vintage bag
mike wore: ted baker endurance suit / ted baker shirt

do you know the way to San Jose

yes – we were those tourists, humming this song on the flight over
we did take up a few rows on the plane so i think we got away with it! πŸ˜‰

San Jose was surreal.
Not only did we have the film premiere at the Cinequest Film Festival, but the Sparks comic book launched the night we arrived, as well as other press lunches & interviews that had to be done. Mike was run off his feet!

i was able to meet everyone i’d heard so very much about – it was lovely to finally put faces to names! Some friends traveled to be there the night of the premiere which meant so much to us! (thank you so much Amy!) the support was incredible!

With so much happening all at once i forgot to take as many photos as i would have liked, but here’s day one of San Jose…

LA in a nutshell

our experience in LA was, in a nutshell, rushed.
i’m almost certain we spent half a day trying to find wedding rings downtown in the jewellery district! (we really did leave a lot of things last minute)

#PicFrame
our days started off with two things – a delicious breakfast from EggSlut & a coffee from the Hart & the Hunter.
#PicFrame
some days i needed a double caffeine hit – a takeaway latte and a piccolo!
#PicFrame
IMG_2692

Mike dropped me off at Jetrag Vintage & i very happily spent an hour browsing through all the incredible dresses. i actually only managed to get through 4 rows of dresses from the 50’s & 60’s – i could have spent all day in here! it’s a wonderland!
#PicFrame
i tried on so many dresses (& bought the 2 on the right)
#PicFrame
but i’m still wishing i got the one on the left here (even though it did have a tear in the seam) – look how perfect it was!

there was more coffee followed by more running around (& quite a bit of sitting around on LA freeways – pretty sure it’s always peak hour over there!)
DSC04179
america – i’ve gotta hand it to you…i’m liking your coffee! πŸ˜‰

for dinner we decided to head out to the Grove to give Gordon Ramsay’s new restaurant Fat Cow a try
#PicFrame
#PicFrame
#PicFrame
i had a delicious beef pie, while poor Mike had to attempt to find his (very undercooked! eep!) steak under a mound of the funniest looking fries we had ever seen!
IMG_2682

oh, did i mention we had more coffee?
#PicFrame
and some of the tastiest food i’ve ever had
#PicFrame
and of course more eggs
#PicFrame

it all flew by so very quickly & before we knew it we were all packed & waiting to head to San Jose…
x

and so it begins

today marks two months since we headed off on our wonderful whirlwind holiday.
it was pure magic & i thought it was only fitting to share some photos from our trip.
the flight over was a total eye opener!
we flew business class with Virgin & it was an absolute dream!
(that was the first clue that this was no ordinary trip! come on guys – we were flying business class! of course we were plotting something! haha)
the champagne! the food! the leg space! the beds?!! did i mention the champagne?!

over the next few days i’ll share some of our many photos, while simultaneously wishing i was back there doing it all over again πŸ˜‰ pure magic!

now the food was just out of this world! some of the tastiest food i ate on this holiday was on our flights (both over & back!)
DSC04125
DSC04126
DSC04129
this wasn’t even all of it! so so tasty

with ridiculously full bellies & the nice calming effects of the wine, it was time to get ready for bed…
DSC04141
our beds all sectioned off in our own little “cabin”
DSC04151
i got engrossed watching Looper (oh JGL! be still my heart!)
DSC04131
but the ceiling resembled the night sky, which was so very pretty to fall asleep to

we slept so soundly in fact, that the morning was quite a rushed blur.
our ear plugs worked a little too well so the poor flight steward had to gently shake my arm to wake me! hahaha! breakfast was delicious, but i was so sleepy i forgot to take a photo!

the time difference meant that we landed in LA before we actually left Melbourne!
haha hello again february 26th!
we grabbed our hire car & joined the rest of LA on the freeway
DSC04155

DSC04158
our first stop was coffee at the Hart & the Hunter – the cutest little cafe in the foyer of our hotel
#PicFrame
who knew you could get such great coffee in LA?! so delicious
DSC04159
this is the only picture we managed to snap of the outside of our hotel
funny story about the PaliHotel is that it was previously the Orbit Hostel – the same place where we both happened to be staying after we met in San Francisco 10 years ago! needless to say, this place holds a lot of memories for us πŸ˜‰
#PicFrame
i was a little bit in love with this glass door

while the Pali Hotel does have all the looks of a great boutique hotel, when you get down to it, it just felt like staying at the Orbit Hostel – but with a paint job.
(almost certain the bedding is still remnant from it’s hostel days – which is kind of scary!)
don’t get me wrong, it’s super cute & all, but definitely not worth the money they are charging.
#PicFrame
we spent the rest of the day out at the office so Mike could catch up with all the guys to discuss San Jose & the film premiere, so by the time we got back to West Hollywood we were super tired & super hungry…
so enter Mikes wonderful dinner suggestion…
#PicFrame
of In-N-Out Burger!
#PicFrame
burger & fries – animal style! oh man, was it delicious!
the fries were seriously too much for me (look at that??? it’s crazy!)
but it’s definitely one of, if not the tastiest burger i’ve ever eaten
(& i sure do eat a lot of burgers! hah!)
the perfect end to our first day in the USA

x
(i just realised that this blog posts makes it seem like all we do is eat!)
