the last of the summer sunshine

a few weekends ago, before Melbourne became the obligatory winter wonderland, Penny & i headed out in the last of the summer sunshine on a little vintage shopping adventure. while we didn’t document any of that (what is wrong with us?!) we did make a stop at The St Kilda Dispensary – where i went a bit snap happy (to say the least!)

i’m in love with the decor here – clean lines, hints of vintage & a whole pile of medical equipment. it fits in perfectly with the fact that back in the day, the building itself was actually the St Kilda Medical Dispensary!!
the owner Kristy is just lovely & found all the pieces herself – i’m just a teeeeensy bit jealous of her incredible finds! πŸ˜‰

Penny got straight to instagraming

while my attempt at a selfie failed (still getting the hang of the manual setting on my camera!)

thankfully there’s always coffee to save the day
DSC09829
i love the cute little sugar jars – our souvenir spoon was London Bridge!
(did i ever mention that i have a souvenir spoon collection?? because i do…)
DSC09827
this here is my favourite cozy corner
look at those light globes! and the crutches in the corner! and the little bursts of colour from the flowers scattered all around! ahhh so so perfect!

it has come to my attention that this is what i look like whenever this meal is placed in front of me. i literally just sit there grinning at it.
can you blame me though?
DSC09832
look at it! The ever so delicious veggie breakfast roll – with avo & feta mash, a fried egg, rocket & hollandaise sauce…oh man! i’m getting hungry just thinking about it!
DSC09841
DSC09833
Penny had a delicious scone & jam slider! how cute is it?!!
all the meals here are affordable & from the few i’ve tried, they’re also delicious (though i do keep having the veggie breakfast roll! it’s just too good!)
DSC09843
this is actually the hardest window to get a shot of – this was the best out of them all. the brightness meant the reflections were off the hook! sorry! haha

not wanting the deliciousness to end there, we decided to grab ourselves a couple of cupcakes from Southside Markets
DSC09846
unfortunately they didn’t taste as good as they looked…
actually, they were awful & after one tiny bite we both threw them out! such a waste & so so sad

we decided that the only way to get rid of the bad cupcake taste & cure our blues was to have even more food
DSC09855
naturally we went for chips with aioli dip
DSC09854
we also got some sparkling rose – the perfect companion to chips!
(haha probably not but it is delicious)
DSC09862
pretty roses that i wanted to take home with me

we had such a fun, food-filled day & i can’t believe those sunny days are already so far behind us! oh well – we’ll just have to wear more layers next time! πŸ˜‰

this photo is one of my favourites from the day
the last one of us before we were married
(& a selfie in a mirror at that!)

i remember the feeling of anticipation
everything felt so surreal
we’d gone out to grab coffee & some breakfast, before wandering down to the farmers market at the ferry terminal
i bought 2 bunches of ranunculus that i planned on making into a bouquet – a roll of double sided tape & 2 meters of ribbon later, & i was done
we were both ready in under half an hour…

i remember a few days earlier a friend said to us

i don’t know how to describe it, but it changes everything

we thought he was mad…
…but now i’m not so sure
i mean, he was kind of right.
there has been a subtle change – a shift of sorts.

it’s a wonderful feeling

Sparks Red Carpet

the red carpet was hilarious.
and by hilarious i actually mean kind of terrifying! (in a good way of course)

there were people everywhere, along with crazy bright lights & more cameras then you could poke a stick at! it was really wild!
i’ve been on the press line before, taking pictures of people on the red carpet when i helped Mike out with Indie Film Nation, and even that was crazy – not to mention i was a little star struck (Joseph Gordon Levitt!!!!!), but this was a whole new strange level for me!
i did feel like my face was going to burst from smiling so much – but i figure that can’t be a bad thing!

some friends managed to snap some photos of us as we were shuffled down the press line so i thought i’d share a few

it was really such a fun experience.
plus i managed to find a 1940s dress to fit in with the era of the film, so i ticked that one off my list!

i wore: vintage 1940’s dress from Shag / sportsgirl heels / vintage bag
mike wore: ted baker endurance suit / ted baker shirt

LA in a nutshell

our experience in LA was, in a nutshell, rushed.
i’m almost certain we spent half a day trying to find wedding rings downtown in the jewellery district! (we really did leave a lot of things last minute)

#PicFrame
our days started off with two things – a delicious breakfast from EggSlut & a coffee from the Hart & the Hunter.
#PicFrame
some days i needed a double caffeine hit – a takeaway latte and a piccolo!

the quiet courtyard at the Palihotel

Mike dropped me off at Jetrag Vintage & i very happily spent an hour browsing through all the incredible dresses. i actually only managed to get through 4 rows of dresses from the 50’s & 60’s – i could have spent all day in here! it’s a wonderland!
#PicFrame
i tried on so many dresses (& bought the 2 on the right)
#PicFrame
but i’m still wishing i got the one on the left here (even though it did have a tear in the seam) – look how perfect it was!

there was more coffee followed by more running around (& quite a bit of sitting around on LA freeways – pretty sure it’s always peak hour over there!)

america – i’ve gotta hand it to you…i’m liking your coffee! πŸ˜‰

for dinner we decided to head out to the Grove to give Gordon Ramsay’s new restaurant Fat Cow a try
#PicFrame

#PicFrame
i had a delicious beef pie, while poor Mike had to attempt to find his (very undercooked! eep!) steak under a mound of the funniest looking fries we had ever seen!
IMG_2682

oh, did i mention we had more coffee?
#PicFrame
and some of the tastiest food i’ve ever had
#PicFrame
and of course more eggs
#PicFrame

it all flew by so very quickly & before we knew it we were all packed & waiting to head to San Jose…

country life dreaming

i can’t stop thinking about this place!

nestled just outside of my favourite country town, the Red Brick Barn is a two-story guesthouse that looks like it’s been standing for centuries, when it fact it’s just a few years old! the owners built it using reclaimed bricks – in fact, everything in the Barn is second hand! it’s like a vintage dream!

i can imagine myself waking up to that gorgeous sunlight

sitting down here with hot cup of coffee

maybe being brave enough to use the outdoor shower/tub
(probably not in winter though…)

having an afternoon nap here (or just owning that quilt!!)

preparing delicious hearty meals

& i just want this to be my bathroom…please!

just imagine being surrounded by this beauty everyday?!

i’m in “i-want-to-live-in-a-barn-in-the-country” mode (again…hahaha yes yes, this happens often! just ask poor Mike!), but after seeing this place, do you blame me?
pretty sure i need a trip out to Chewton to stay here

beautiful vintage that makes my heart skip a beat

i love vintage clothing.
beautiful dresses really do make my heart skip a beat, & while i have quite a large collection myself, the dresses over at Dear Golden really are a sight to behold.
they’re currently having a 25% off sale & as a result, i’m wishing i had an endless list of gala’s to go to (just one would be nice…!), not to mention & endless supply of money πŸ˜‰
here are some of my favourites that i wish i could make mine

this beautiful 1950’s silk orange party dress

i’m certain i need this gorgeous 1950s wedding dress
(i have a slight obsession with wedding dresses…it’s possible that i own at least 10…)
and while on the topic of wedding dresses…

please can this be mine??

this beautiful baby blue strapless number is just breathtaking

and this white & blue cupcake dress

and this incredible red tulle number

and while i’m here, how could i go past these 2 gorgeous princess coats

this black & rusty brown boucle coat

and i swear this black wool coat is what my dreams are made of!
look at both of those collars!! ahhh ❀

if you didn’t already know, i have a thing for the 1950s πŸ˜‰

i’ve been crushing on Dear Golden for such a long time, so i needed to share the love
if you’re after beautiful vintage, definitely pop over to their store & check them out.
x

(i’m not in any way affiliated with Dear Golden. i just love their dresses!)

1940s glamour

i’ve found my dress for the film premiere ❀

i was sure i had my work cut out for me, considering 1940s dresses aren’t exactly the easiest thing to find, especially on a time constraint!
i almost just gave up, but a fateful pop into a vintage store on the way to visit a friend had my dress dilemmas sorted! my dress of choice was a gorgeous black crepe wiggle dress with a sweetheart neckline…(but i’ll share more about that a little later…)

below are a few gorgeous gowns that i came across while gathering dress inspiration on etsy.

this gorgeous black art deco dress from Rococo Vintage
this Jerry Gilden Rayon dress from Raleigh Vintage
this gorgeous peach coloured dream from Nod to Mod Vintage
and this stunning pink lace formal gown

so simple but so glamorous

bright colours & giant fish = daily outfit post

#PicFrame
Another day, another outfit photo (taken once again by Penny)…
#PicFrame
and another vintage dress – naturally πŸ˜‰
Untitled
this wall was just screaming to have photos taken in front of it, even if the giant koi mixed with my red dress made for a colour-assault on the eyes…how could we say no!
Untitled
#PicFrame
i’m slowly getting the knack of this posing business, but as you can see on the right, i’ve still got quite a way to go! haha (even funnier is that Penny only sent me the good photos! eeep)
#PicFrame
i’m wearing – vintage sundress: thrifted / shoes: sportsgirl / necklace: Polli
Untitled
have a wonderful week everyone
& thanks again Penny!

Sparks & a shameless plug ;)

this is the reason behind our somewhat sudden trip to the USA

Sparks – the movie that Mike went over to the USA to help produce early last year – is having its world premiere at the 2013 Cinequest Film Festival!!!
Our good friend Chris is the man behind the movie & i’m so very proud (& excited & ecstatic!! eeee!!) to see how all of their hard work is finally paying off.
not to mention that i’m absolutely thrilled to be able to head over with Mike to see Sparks in all its glory!

As stated on the Cinequest Film Festival website:

With great power, comes greater villains.

Based on his own cult comic hit, Christopher Folino’s groundbreaking superhero noir thriller follows Ian Sparks (Chase Williamson, John Dies at the End), a young man destined to protect others from the grips of evil. He may not have the physical prowess of other Supers, but his lovable charm easily captures the heart of the beautiful Lady Heavenly (Ashley Bell, The Last Exorcism). Together they become the go-to heroes, but after a traumatizing encounter with the villainous Matanza (William Katt, Carrie), Sparks plunges into darkness. Overcome with defeat and self-doubt, will he find his way back to the light or betray all that he once stood for?

With a brilliant supporting cast, including Clancy Brown (Shawshank Redemption), Jake Busey (Starship Troopers), Clint Howard (Apollo 13), and Marina Squerciati (Gossip Girls), Sparks delivers action, twists, and excitement. – Sharon Gonzales

Sparks World Premiere is on Friday March 1st & there are additional screenings on Saturday March 2nd & Tuesday March 5th. if you’re in the San Jose area you should definitely come on over & check it out – tickets are available here.

with all of that being said, i’m now on a mission to find a 1940’s frock to wear for the premiere. as cheesy as it is, i’ve decided i want to match the era of the film (that & the fact that 1940’s gowns are just stunning!)
if anyone spots one, feel free to let me know πŸ˜‰
and any tips on 1940’s hair & makeup would be most welcome! i’m about to you-tube up a storm to try & learn some new styles

Congratulations Mike, Chris & all the gang over at Sideshow Productions! i’m so proud of all of you & can’t wait to see you all next month to celebrate ❀
